Junior Club
The junior section is an integral part of Stanway Badminton Club. We aim to teach the techniques and tactics of the game in a fun, safe and friendly environment and hope that our junior members will over time graduate into representing the club at senior level.
We encourage all junior players to enter tournaments and we try to advise of suitable local events.
All junior club members will be registered as a "Junior Club player" with BADMINTON England but anyone wishing to play in Essex and National sanctioned tournaments will need to purchase a COMPETE Membership upgrade - please see BADMINTON England website for more information.
Sunday 9am-12pm @ Colchester Sports Park
The junior club is made up of three 1-hour sessions with players grouped by age and playing ability. The sessions are a mixture of fitness, footwork and racket skills exercises followed by some practice games.
Sessions are led by Clive Palmer with typically three assistant coaches.
Membership
Fees are currently £75 for each school term where there will typically be about 12 sessions each term.

Unfortunately, despite increasing our capacity over the years, we have a waiting list for places in the group.
In general we offer places on a first-come-first-served basis but reserve the right to fast track places for any stronger players. We may offer trial sessions to assist with this selection.
Typically our junior members start between the age of 9 and 13 and progress through the sessions. The older players have therefore been with us for a while. For this reason, and because of our waiting list, we are unlikely to be able to offer a place to complete beginners once they are 14 years old. We might be able to recommend alternatives.
Coaches
Clive Palmer - Head Coach
Qualification: UKCC Level 2
Clive is a full time badminton coach, with experience teaching players from beginners through to national level.
He now lives near Colchester and is working with the Essex County Juniors, Suffolk Juniors , Ipswich Badminton Performance Centre and Stanway Juniors.
Billy Yuen
Qualification: UKCC Level 2
Billy has been coaching with the club for a few years having seen his two daughters progress through the junior ranks.

Victor Essex Futures - Colchester 2026
Congratulations to all the Stanway Juniors that took part in the Victor Essex Futures tournament at Charter Hall on Saturday.
